BRIDGEWATER – Recycle newspapers, magazine junk mail and more at the drop-off event on the first Saturday of the month on Saturday, June 5, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Residents are encouraged to donate canned goods, which will be distributed to local food banks through the recycling division. Social distancing is required: residents must wear face coverings. Occupants should remain in their vehicles and staff will be available to help them remove items. Proof of residency is required: Residents must have a valid driver’s license, valid lease, tax bill, or other invoice that shows proof of an address in Somerset County. Pre-registration is not required. No business or utility vehicle is allowed. Accepted Items Deposit up to eight tires – with or without rims – scrap metal, used engine oil, oil filters, antifreeze and common curbside materials, including chipboard items, plastic bottles and containers marked 1 through 7. Chipboard items include boxes of gifts, shoes, shirts and all retail boxes, as well as boxes of cereal, cookies, pasta and cake and crackers without plastic liners. Dry and empty steel notice board, notepad holder, and paint cans are also accepted. Somerset County does not accept textiles during deposits on the first Saturday of the month. Residents should continue to recycle used textiles in any local charitable donation bin. Donate non-perishable food to the First Saturday Drop-off to help residents who have been affected by COVID-19. For a full list of recyclable items, recycling events and more, click here. HILLSBOROUGH E-Waste Drop-off – The Somerset County E-Waste Drop-off Event will take place on Saturday, June 5, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South County Public Works Garage, located at 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. La Social distancing is required: residents must wear face covers. Occupants should remain in their vehicles with the windows closed until otherwise specified. Residents are required to remove items from their vehicles without staff assistance, but staff will tell residents where to put their items. Proof of residency is required: Residents must have a current driver’s license, valid lease, tax bill, or other invoice that shows proof of their address in Somerset County. Pre-registration is not required. No business or utility vehicle is allowed. Batteries are not accepted: Residents can recycle household hazardous waste including lithium and rechargeable batteries on schedule, click here. Batteries such as AA, AAA, D, C and 9 volts can be thrown in the regular trash.
