Police ID suspect in downtown office rape – NBC10 Philadelphia

Philadelphia police have identified the man they believe raped a woman at a downtown law office this week.

The man wanted for the crime is Willie L. Harris, 49, Philadelphia Police Department officer Eric McLaurin said Thursday. Harris uses multiple aliases, including William Banks, Wil Harris, Billy Smith, Reese Smith, Willie Smith and Maurice Harris, McLaurin said.

Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit Captain James Kearney said the 22-year-old victim was working alone in the 8th-floor office of the 200 block of North 13th Street at around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday when the suspect, now identified. as Harris, entered. He asked her about another woman she didn’t know, Kearney said.

He then asked that she remain seated in a chair as he searched the office for items, Kearney said. The victim offered to give him headphones and earrings in hopes he would leave.

The suspect became angry, police said, and repeatedly beat and choked the woman. Then he raped her.

A second employee, who had gone out for a 30-minute lunch break, returned to the office and witnessed the attack. The suspect then fled, police said.

Harris has no known address but has ties to Camden and Woodbury, New Jersey, as well as downtown Philadelphia, McLaurin said.
