Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
New Jersey Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists should be aware that New Jersey no-fault laws do not apply to them because motorcycles do not meet the definition of a motor vehicle. For this reason, motorcyclists injured in accidents are not entitled to loss of income and medical benefits granted to motor vehicle accident victims.
Motorcyclists are required by law to carry insurance in the probable event that they are injured in an accident. Riders must carry an insurance policy that covers each person injured in an accident up to $25,000. $50,000 is the policy minimum in the event of the death of one party involved in the accident, and $100,000 is required in the event of two or more deaths in a single accident.
In addition, motorcyclists can take out additional UM/UIM insurance. These offer up to $250,000 per person per accident and $500,000 for injuries to two or more people. Due to these restrictive insurance requirements, a person injured in a motorcycle accident may be eligible for financial compensation from their insurance company.
