Kids and adults can add to the mural project at Maplewood this week

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – “Making art is always about starting a conversation,” say the organizers of the “Rivers” community mural project in Maplewood. Until this Saturday, July 23, they invited people to register online for a time slot to paint their own part of the project.

You are invited to participate in ‘Rivers,’ the Yale and Springfield Avenue Corner Mural Project, conceptualized by local artists Barbara M. Bickart (Fire in the belly Artmaking) and Andrew Dean, along with 15 of our young local artists,” organizers say.

The project is sponsored by the Springfield Avenue Partnership as part of the Neighborhood Preservation Program.

They added, “‘Rivers’ is a community-based public art project open to participants aged five and up, who wish to add their voice through color, line and form to this collaborative, on-site animated painting project. by Barbara M. Bickart and co-hosts Jennifer McClory and Katey Darago.”

Sign up to add a “doodle design” or your own, or one they provide.

“Anyway, please come and celebrate the vibrancy of this amazing community by spending time painting together and visiting,” the artists said. “Making art is always about starting a conversation. Come celebrate who we are and take care of your own colorful space on the ‘banks’ of this river.”

You can tell them your party size under “quantity”.
