September 18 is National Cheeseburger Day. If it were up to me, all the banks and post offices would be closed and there would be no garbage collection. It should be a national holiday.
I spent years looking for and tasting the best cheeseburger I could find. I have literally been to 46 states, 10 countries and at some point during my visit have tried a cheeseburger in each of my locations.
Of course, fast food restaurants like McDonalds list the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and Double Cheeseburger as top sellers for golden arches, all derived from the classic cheeseburger.
According to Thrillist, the chain’s top-ranked cheeseburgers are:
#1 Culvers Double Butter Burger with Cheese: This is a Wisconsin chain that claims the addition of Wisconsin cheese is part of the great flavor. The cheeseburger sits on a soft Kaiser bun that has a knob of butter in it, making it the double butter burger with cheese. The chain boasts of high quality ingredients. As of this month, the cheeseburger is $4.29. Not bad.
#2 In-N-Out Burger: Double Double Burger: In-N-Out Burger prides itself on never-frozen, always-fresh burger patties that are made in an In-N-Out facility and shipped fresh to outlets across the country. company. The Double Double burger is a couple of those burgers sandwiched with American cheese and their special “animal sauce” which I’m pretty sure is mostly Thousand Island dressing, but thinner. It’s pretty good.
#3 Sonic Drive In: Super Sonic Double Cheeseburger: Sonic does a great job and decorates his cheeseburger with two patties with American cheese amid sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles, lettuce with ketchup and mayonnaise . The beef is tasty and everything comes together. Great flavor.
#4 Whataburger: Double Meat Whataburger with Cheese: While the two patties they use on this burger are thin, they’re chunky and encompass the big bun, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and garlic. onion with Whataburger mustard. It’s a good burger.
#5 McDonald’s: Quarter Pounder with Cheese: The standard that has been around for centuries got a makeover a few years ago when the Golden Arches switched to fresh meat on the quarter pounder instead of frozen, this change increased the sales and gave the Big Mac a run for its money!
#6 Wendy’s: Dave’s Double: There are two-quarter-pound patties sandwiched between lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise. It’s a mighty tasty burger. The toast is good too.
These are the best cheeseburgers in the chain. Let me be perfectly clear: the best of these cheeseburgers still can’t compete with the big restaurants in New Jersey that are famous for their burgers. I shared this comprehensive list in a previous post from May this year which included some great burger restaurants in Jersey.
For your information, here is a list of my favorite places in Jersey to get a good cheeseburger:
Barnacle Bill’s in Rumson, New Jersey
Celtic Cottage Pub in Long Branch
Trama Restaurant in Long Branch, NJ
Irish Railway in Manasquan, New Jersey
White Manna Burgers in Hackensack, NJ.
Back Bay Ale House in Atlantic City New Jersey
The Ark at Point Pleasant Beach
The Engaged Pig in Summit, New Jersey
These are my favorites, enjoy a cheeseburger.
