It’s probably hard to believe, but it’s time to start thinking about where to take Mom for Mother’s Day. Don’t forget, May 8th is almost here!
You’d be crazy, living in this state, not to consider taking mom out for a fabulous meal at one of New Jersey’s beautiful waterfront restaurants.
And, even though we have 130 miles of coastline here in New Jersey, there are rivers and lakes that are also beautiful for dining al fresco.
You know we have some of the best restaurants in the Northeast right here in New Jersey, so why not take advantage of that and pair it with a great view.
Mom will thank you for the rest of the year.
Here are some of the best waterfront and water-view restaurants in New Jersey.
The Pearl at Oyster Point Hotel, Red Bank
In classic Red Bank style, the Oyster Point Hotel is historic and beautiful. Its elegant restaurant, The Pearl, shows off all the magnificent views that Red Bank has to offer. The location and view are spectacular and the decor is very elegant. People love the short rib sandwiches and half-shell oysters.
And, you will be absolutely mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the Navesink River stretching out before you. Try it for Mother’s Day and you’ll keep coming back.
The Proving Ground, Highlands
The Proving Ground takes its name from the very particular history of this region. Established in 1874, the Sandy Hook Proving Ground was the United States Army’s first proving ground to test artillery and other materials. His namesake restaurant reflects that sentiment in his adventurous cuisine: it’s about trying out new menu items and chef Bobby Higgins does it very well.
They have the latest craft beer and cocktails and host events, music and a great experience to always keep things fresh and fun.
Rooney’s Beachfront Restaurant, Long Branch
OK, full disclosure. I am a frequent customer of Rooney’s Oceanfront Restaurant. A VERY frequent. But you have to try it. Since 1995, Rooney’s has been a unique dining experience with a beautiful, scenic oceanfront location in Long Branch.
A huge two-level outdoor terrace brings diners even closer to the breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. The decor is designed to give customers a feeling of closeness to the sea. The heart of its cuisine are the varied dishes with the concept of fresh seafood and much more. The relaxed setting and creative menus make this year-round beachfront restaurant a favorite on the Jersey Shore.
Beach Tavern at Channel Club Marina, Long Branch
Beach Tavern is fun. It can get quite active during its peak times and that’s what I love about it. This waterfront restaurant serves steaks, seafood, raw sea bass, pizza, and pasta. Everything here is delicious, but people always marvel at the fried cauliflower on the appetizer menu. The service is always perfect, as are the drinks. Beach Tavern is a must.
Sirena at Pier Village, Long Branch
Serena, located in the beautiful pier village branch, is upscale and chic with stunning ocean views. The food is absolutely to die for and the bar is also beautiful.
Serena’s bar is the place to be on Saturday night. For an elegant dinner special with food to die for and an extensive wine list, consider Sirena for Mom this year. If the weather is good, you can eat outside suspended above the beach.
David Burke’s Drift House, Sea Bright
Chef David Burke never disappoints with his contemporary approach to cooking and highlights the classics of the region. All of David Burke’s fan-favorites, like clothesline bacon, are included on the drifting house menu, but now you can also enjoy new dishes with a more Mediterranean twist, like the casino of linguine with langoustines with seafood and the Cavatelli with wild mushrooms – with local mushrooms, of course.
Don’t forget to try the shredded artichoke salad and the ribeye halibut. The view, of course, is magnificent.
Stella Marina Bar and Restaurant Asbury Park
A unique seaside dinner is exactly what you will get at Stella Marina Bar and Restaurant. Located directly on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey, this is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner on Mother’s Day. Breathe in the ocean air while dining on the boardwalk or enjoy a casual dinner in one of their two dining rooms.
The staff here are helpful and amazing and they have everything from starters to sandwiches and salads for lunch. Try their pizza figi: A pizza served with goat cheese, caramelized onions, dried figs and rosemary.
Battello, Jersey City
Absolutely the best place to take in New York City, Battello serves lunch, brunch, dinner, and a light bar menu. It’s a well done Italian fair. Executive chef Ryan DiPersio, who also runs their sister restaurant, the Kitchen Step, does Italian well.
Battello is one of the greatest aspects of “New” Jersey City, and arguably one of the main reasons Jersey City is known across the country for its fine dining.
Lambertville Gare Restaurant and Inn, Lambertville
The whole town of Lambertville is perfect for a Mother’s Day. Spend time wandering the neighborhood, window shopping, then shopping and ending your day at the quaint and beautiful restaurant and inn at Lambertville Station.
This restaurant and inn is legendary, with diners returning time and time again and recommending it to their friends. It offers American cuisine, served on the banks of the Delaware River. Housed in a renovated 19th-century train station, this quaint spot is a favorite with locals.
Robin’s Nest, Mount Holly
You may never have heard of Robin’s Nest, but anyone who lives in the Mount Holly area has certainly heard of it. In fact, people travel from all over the state to experience it. Robins Nest Restaurant is a beautiful and historic restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious lunch, an intimate dinner, a relaxing Sunday brunch or an evening cocktail in a quaint, old fashioned bar. They have a unique and eclectic cuisine with a French-American twist.
Meals, cocktails or even a light snack or dessert can be served in their old fashioned bar or one of their many elegant dining rooms. But the real treat is their outdoor patio overlooking the serene Mill Race waterway. It will be a nice quiet meal that Mom will never forget.
